A hobbyist photographer, based in Central Spain, I work in a wide variety of photographic genres, blending a range of personal interests with my passion for photography.

My Photography Life
My interest in photography started at around the age of eight when I acquired a simple Boots point-and-shoot camera. My shots were simple and not thought out but one picture at the age of 9 or so caught my eye (a silhouette of a person against a pretty sunset) - the first photograph I was probably proud of.
Then in 1999, after getting through a number of instant film cameras, I purchased a Minolta SLR which I enjoyed using for a number of years, and in the early 2000s was glad to get CDs wih (low resolution) digital copies of the photographs. But the printed images mattered more to me. It was at this stage though that I started a simple method of organising my digital copies with a folder and numbering system, a method I still use (with some improvements with the use of keywords, etc.).
Digital cameras became more accessible in the early 2000s, but I remained very sceptical about them being the only data source for images, and remained faithful to my SLR.
Bu at the end of 2004 my view changed within a matter of seconds when  was given a 5MP Sony Cyber-shot camera 2005. The images were much better quality than I expected, and I very quickly fell in love with the camera. One of my favourite shots was taken on that camera (see the foot of this page), but after an unfortunate accident damaged the lens of the Cyber-shot, I replaced it with an 8MP Cyber-shot camera, and subsequently a 10MP one, but I never managed to get the same satisfaction with those ones. A story of first love, maybe...
My photography journey grew further in 2011 when a relative passed an used Samsung DLSR onto me. I was instantly taken with the improved quality of the photographs, which the higher quality lens contributed to of course. I worked to improve composition, but was ignorant of the technical side, including the importance of raw files, awareness of aperture, shutter speed, colour temperature, lighting, and having a proper processing process.
In 2018 I purchased a Nikon D750, marking the beginning of new phase in my photographic life, since when I have worked hard to learn more about preparation, production and post-production.
With the advent of mirrorless cameras, I have nevertheless stayed with DSLRs, for the time-being at least, and recently acquired a second-hand Nikon D850.
I recently dug out my old Minolta SLR as well, and have tentatively started to use it again for black and white film photography.
I now have a thorough processing procedure, from image selection, to naming, adding keywords,
My Photography Interests
My love of photography focuses on the idea of capturing moments and scenes of the world around us that have some form of meaning for me. As such, I do not focus on any specific genre, but point my camera and shoot what catches my attention in that moment.
There are many facets to photography for me. I think of what I take in two general categories - snaps and creative photographs. Snaps are what I take without too much thought going into the shot, with the aim of capturing a moment as an aide-mémoire. Creative photographs are the ones I take time over, where there is something a bit more special that I am trying to capture, where planning and additional equipment (lighting, trypod, timer, etc.) might be needed. Frequently, though, the two overlap and what may have been taken as a snap results in something a little more special. And of course, a lot of what is aimed at creativity comes a cropper, and ends up being deleted or not being fully processed.
This website is aimed at sharing a selection from my more creative photography portfolio, essentially the images that I am happiest with.
